The appointment of Lt. Col. Gbevlo-Lartey (Ret.) was meant to foster deeper coorporation with the Sahel States in the area of counter terrorism. This is absolutely necessary since the terrorists who pose a serious potential threat to this country are already operating in those countries which have united to form the Alliance; and for that matter we need to collaborate with them to prevent the threat spreading further southwards to our boarders.
Besides, what serious practical effort has ECOWAS made in the past to combat terrorism in these Sahelian States.
