President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy has officially become law, describing it as a major step toward boosting productivity and creating jobs across the country.

Speaking during the 69th Ghana Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House, the president said he had assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, paving the way for businesses and industries to operate in multiple shifts.

“My fellow countrymen and women, I'm pleased to announce that I have assented to the 24-hour economy authority bill, and it has now become law,” he stated.

According to the president, the reform is expected to transform Ghana’s economy by enabling continuous production and expanding employment opportunities in several sectors.

“This historic reform will boost Ghana's productivity. Businesses will be incentivised to run across multiple shifts. Factories will operate around the clock, and services will become more accessible to our citizens,” he said.

He added that the initiative would generate thousands of jobs in sectors including manufacturing, logistics, transportation, and security.

“Thousands of new jobs will be generated across various sectors, ranging from manufacturing and logistics to security and transportation,” he noted.

President Mahama said the policy would also help Ghana make better use of existing infrastructure while positioning the country as a competitive industrial hub.

“This initiative will enable us to optimise the use of our national infrastructure and establish Ghana as a competitive industrial hub. And this is how we will create prosperity,” he explained.

Beyond the 24-hour economy initiative, the president said the government is also working to expand opportunities for women entrepreneurs through the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank.

The bank, he noted, will provide financing and business support tailored specifically to women-led enterprises, helping strengthen the country’s informal sector and accelerate economic growth.

“When women succeed, families thrive, and nations prosper,” he said.
