Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as a Lay Canon of the Cathedral Church of St Peter, Koforidua, by the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.
The honour was bestowed during a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
The news of his installation, shared on X by Kow Essuman read, “Congratulations to the freshest Lay Canon of the Cathedral Church of St Peter in the diocese of Koforidua, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
Akufo-Addo has done exceptionally well as President of this Republic
A Lay Canon in the Anglican Church is a non-ordained member of the congregation (laity) who is appointed by a Bishop to this honorary position in recognition of faithful, distinguished, or valuable service to the church.
While they are not part of the clergy (priests or deacons), they are often installed in the cathedral and contribute to the corporate life of the Cathedral and the diocese.
They may be called upon to provide advice on matters in the church, including administrative, financial, or developmental affairs.
