Strong tribal warlords were capturing, subjudicating and enslaving the weaker tribes. Slavery was entrenched in the African tribal setup. The Whites traders upgraded it and made it a thriving business. Why no slave trade in Europe; not in Asia; but widespread in West Africa?
Why are we Ghanaians knowingly using GALAMSEY destroy our fertile lands and rich waterbodies FOR ONE TIME GOLD? Happy with riches today and damn the long term deadly consequences. So was the slave trade.

There was slavery all over the world at some point but they've overcome it and move on.

The Dutch fought the Portuguese and the English fought the Dutch to come and trade in Africa.
The trade became slavery because of large sugar cane plantation farms acquired by European capitalists in the West Indies and South America.
The Europeans were making lot of money from sugar then.
Those sent to the North America were into cotton and tobbaco farming.
It surprises me that today we can't go into sugar cane
farming and process sugar it in Africa.
President Mahama can't operationalise the sugar factory he built since 2016.
