The Secretary of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat NAIMOS), Col Dominic Buah, has issued a stern warning to illegal miners, urging them to avoid violent clashes with his team members, even as authorities intensify efforts to curb the growing national menace.

His caution comes at a time when the fight against galamsey continues to face stiff resistance in some mining communities across Ghana.

These confrontations have raised growing concerns about the safety of personnel deployed to enforce the law and protect the environment.

Speaking at an editors’ forum on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Colonel Buah made it clear that his team is prepared to respond decisively to any threats.

He emphasised that operatives are not only trained for such situations but they are also equipped to defend themselves if necessary, signalling a tougher posture in the ongoing crackdown.

“We will not stand and watch anyone use weapons against us. We are better trained in weapons and therefore warn that anybody who dares, NAIMOS will deal with them ruthlessly.

"It is a problem we are trying to address, and we have the right to self-defence and let no galamseyer miss that. If you go to the field with weapons and you try to fire them, a lot more will be at you,” he said.

Colonel Buah’s remarks reflect the increasing tensions surrounding illegal mining operations, as authorities push to restore order while balancing enforcements with the safety of both officers and communities.
