Nobody is saying that slavery started with or by the West, slavery existed long before the time of Jesus Christ - long before Jesus was born, across major parts of the globe. But the scale and inhumane nature at which it was done that captured the attention of the entire world is what has become known as the period of Slave Trade, or Slavery for short, and that mainly involved the Europeans. Can Obiri Boahen point out any part of the world where any other groups of people (apart from Europeans) built bunkers and castles purposely for slave trade? Or can Obiri Boahen tell us any other group of people who brought bib, big slave ships (ships built purposely for slave trade) to the shore of Africa to invade provinces and capture people by force and take them away as slaves? Or can he point out any other part of the world that built their countries and their economies with the sweat of enslaved people?

Who is this man called Obiri Boahen? Where is his source of information, anyway? Look, Africa, through the AU is saying that our ancestors were sent across the oceans to other continents, were treated like commodities by these slave owners, deprived them of their human rights and that these actions against Africa represent the gravest crimes against humanity. This is simple. The children of those slave traders and owners are alive, with the blood of their evil ancestors running through them. What is Obiri Boahen saying? He says Africans also participated in the crime. The Arabs were even the forerunners. But do these negate the fact that his ancestor was chained, transported across the ocean and made to work like an animal? No use. Its like an African fighting an African here. If I were Obiri Boahen, I wouldn't counter what our leaders have put forward for debate. At least we can trace our stolen relics to the UK, the USA and other european countries. Can we do same with any country in the Arab world? There is a film entitled 'Roots' in which the protagonist is called 'Kunta Kinte'. Boahen should watch that movie, releave it, and perhaps he would dissociate himself from his own argument .
