  I believe this Tony guy might be telling lies, we have people in all assemblies who parade themselves engineers and collect ten percent FROM CONTRACTORS. Are they different from architects?

  We don't have architects. Meanwhile, our universities are preoccupied with producing a bunch of lawyers yearly. We (as a nation) need to sit down and define our priorities. It looks like we are still running the country on ad hoc basis. There was a time when KNUST was strictly a science oriented university. Nowadays, one can even go there to study religion.

  There are many architects, but as Arc Tony Asare indicated, the Municipal and District Assemblies have failed to engage them. KNUST and Central University have been producing many qualified architects, but if government refuses to hire them, what else can GIA do. Look, GIA has over the years complained to government about this issue, but for whatever reason, they have failed to listen.

  In Ghana, so many houses are built without final inspection. No one follows the building regulations. Just look at the houses in the gated communities. It is apparent that they are not following any building standard. For example, the houses are extremely close to each other so a fire outbreak in one house can easily spread to the next house. In the advanced industrialized countries residential properties are supposed to be few meters away from each other. I am afraid our institutions are still not functioning well.

  We need both Architects and Building Engineers in each local assemblies. Architects designs while builders supervise the building works with the trades or tradesmen.

  The government has to encourage students to take up to study architecture with scholarships and stop granting scholarships for students to study courses that are not so much of relevance to the country.
