Statesman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called for a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late Jerry John Rawlings, the first President of Ghana’s 4th Republic.

Speaking in an interview on GhanaWeb’s The Lowdown, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claimed that the late former President did not die by natural means, suggesting that there was some foul play.

He claimed that information he has from a doctor who took care of Rawlings shows that all of the nurses who took care of the former President were nowhere to be found after his demise.

“From what I was told by my cousin Michael (sic), may he rest in peace, that five nurses who were looking after Jerry John Rawlings at Kole-Bu, the moment he passed on, they all disappeared. They were taken out of the country… The nurses disappeared,” he said.

He went on to challenge the nurses, saying, “If the nurses are around, they should come forward.”

The NPP stalwart also claimed that the death of Rawlings was celebrated by some top military personnel in the country as if they had completed a mission.

“There were two military officers. I know them personally. They know me too, two captains… The captains met just after his death, and they shook hands and said, ‘Mission accomplished’. That means a lot. It is a military palace that means a lot,” he said.

He indicated that so far, the government has not heeded his call for an independent inquiry into the death of Rawlings.

He refuted claims that the former President died because of health complications after he contracted COVID-19 in November 2020.
