Managing Editor of The Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has criticised the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to dismiss Otto Addo just 75 days before a major tournament, calling the move ‘reckless’ and poorly thought through.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on April 1, 2026, Pratt said the timing of the decision raises serious questions about the competence of football administrators.

“I was shocked that authorities waited until so close to the tournament before taking action,” he said, questioning why concerns about the coach were not identified earlier.

Pratt argued that a late change of coach undermines preparation, noting that no incoming coach can fully understand the team’s dynamics, player conditions, and tactical demands within such a short period.

He stressed that coaching involves more than tactics, pointing out that managers must also consider players’ emotional, psychological, and social situations when making decisions.

According to him, expecting a new coach to quickly grasp these complexities is unrealistic and ultimately damaging to the national team.

Otto Addo was relieved of his duties on March 31, 2026, in a surprise decision that has plunged the Black Stars into uncertainty as they prepare for football’s biggest tournament in North America.

The GFA’s announcement did not specify detailed reasons for the termination, but the move followed a series of disappointing results in pre-World Cup friendly matches including a 5-1 loss to Austria and a narrow 2- 1 defeat to Germany which extended Ghana’s run of poor form during the friendlies.
