Well, I do and I have lived (and still live there) more than half of my age: exactly 65% of my present age. Everything that the man said is 1000% TRUE.

Just last year, my daughter visited her Auntie in Basingstoke, UK.
When she returned, her first comment was 'Papa, the people in England are nice oo. Everywhere they'll greet you/ say hello, if you say hello to them. But here, even at the doorstep and on our street, no one greets. They even look aside so you can't greet them'.

This is a 13-year old saying that. She'll certainly move to UK, after completing high school, she told me.

Another girl who left to the Milton-Keynes, UK with her mum and now studying in Reading, visited us. I asked if she can imagine coming back to Germany. Her response, 'Uncle, never again, NEVER. Even in buses, nobody will sit by you, but in England, nobody cares ...'. After hearing that, I just got up, went to the toilet to wipe tears, that were about to flow...

If you make the mistake to greet your neighbor outside the residence, they will disgrace you woefully. Best thing, look aside and pretend you haven't noticed them. The only exception is when you are truely a friend (ie you are on DU terms, you have already visited them in their flats / they have also visited you in your flat).

Just yesterday, my wife mad the same comment: she met a neighbor in one of the three flats we live on. In the corridors etc, he'll respond 'hello', if e greet. Outside the house: NEVER. He'll pretend he hasn't seen us. My children, who were all born here make similar comments. Even school mates, who are not friends, will ignore them outside school.

My friend, these are not lies: I live in Germany, have already lived in 6 main cities there, worked with companies and the story is the same. My bro-in-law, who now lives in London, has sworn never ever to return here.

It is therefore very very rare that a work colleague will call you to check on you, even if you do not come to work 30 days long. The only person who may call (if you have not posted your sick leave to them) is your supervisor.

I have worked as external resource person, so I have worked in several companies and I can attest to this fact.

I remember when my bro-in-law raised his hands and called out the name 'Johannes' to greet our hostel-president in public. The hostel-president looked at my in-law 'toliii', like he has seen a ghost but did not respond. The weirdest part: they lived on the same floor, my in-law: room 104, the president room 105 and they were on good terms within the hostel. After that incidence, my bro never talked to the man!!

I live in Berlin and a year ago they employ a woman as supervisor since she comes every day she will complain about my work whilst i was there 8 years before she comes every one was surprised why the having problem with my work including white people then there was a day many workers didn't come with different excuses so we have to more after the day the lady asked me where i live i told her and she said we are living close each other i said ooh i don't then says she always sees me with one woman i said yes we live in the apartment but she is the who owns the apartment the other man is her man, and she asked me where my family i tell her my wife and my two children and father are all in Africa but i have a sister who lives in Bielefeld after a she requested me for have coffee on weekend which i accepted after she can we go to cinema i yes from cinema she said if we can go her home to rest i said yes, we were there until 10 pm then she said if i don't mind i can spend a night with her i OK after the night is she told me she has been admired me since she comes this work she put me in test and i perfectly passed and she herself don't know how to approach me because am too calm and always focused on work, the whole year she comes i never late to come work even one day. So this white ladies if you met them at ignore them and concentrate on your work if they like they theirself will approach in different ways. They have a term here: NO, Means No. This axiom even applies to couples. If the man want's sex and the woman says No, he should respect that. If he uses force to do, she can report for rape. Sad, but that is status quo.

So if he requested the number once and she replied NO, he shouldn't have requested again.

My friend, there are so may weird regulations here that you may not believe: a woman who had worked with a bakery for 32 years was summarily sacked for eating a load of bread without asking her supervisor before. She even took the case to court, but court couldn't save her. Theft is theft, be it a needle or millions.

It might be that when the lady became nice to him, he thought she loved him and began to ask her out, which she might have turned down, and probably when it became consistent, the lady considered it harassment.
