Motorists and pedestrians expresses concern over deplorable state of road guards in Accra

In an ever-busy city such as Accra, safety should never be negotiable, especially when it comes to road safety. However, it is contrary.

Road guards that are supposed to protect both pedestrians and drivers are in shambles.

This week on Around Town, some commuters and commercial drivers spoke to GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu on the fear they always carry anytime they ply the roads.

"I don't feel fine with the state of the road guards, as it is now; if any vehicle makes a mistake, it can somersault to the other lane and cause an even bigger accident or hurt restraints.

"It is an accident guard that is supposed to guard cars, but as it is now, it is even more of a threat than safety," a pedestrian shared.

Some recounted many instances where accidents have occurred due to the bad conditions of the road guards.

"Recently, there was an accident, and a KIA somersaulted into the other lane, and even though no life was lost, there were severe injuries. There have been several other preventable accidents apart from that one," a driver shared.
