President Macron invites President Mahama to France for high-level talks

President John Dramani Mahama is set to hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron during an official visit to France.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on April 6, 2026, stating that the visit was at the invitation of President Macron.

The statement indicated that the talks will take place at the Élysée Palace in Paris after President Mahama attends the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon.

“President John Dramani Mahama will undertake an official visit to France on Monday, 6 April 2026, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

‘During the visit, President Mahama will attend the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, after which he will hold bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris,” portions of the statement read.

It further noted that the discussions between the two leaders will focus on strengthening ties between Ghana and France.

Detailing the areas of cooperation, the statement explained that it will focus on health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.

“The discussions between the two leaders will centre on strengthening Ghana-France bilateral relations and exploring cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including health, education, trade, investment, and regional security,” it stated.

The Presidency also revealed that President Mahama will be received by senior French officials ahead of the meeting.

“Before the meeting at the Élysée Palace, President Mahama will be received by His Excellency Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate, at the Senate House,” it added.

President Mahama is expected to return to Accra shortly after the bilateral engagement with President Macron.
