Police in the Western North Region have arrested five individuals for allegedly impersonating national security operatives and extorting money from miners in the Suaman District.
The suspects, made up of four alleged impostors and a driver were picked up by the Western North Regional Police Command following intelligence reports about their activities in mining communities.
The group had been operating in areas such as Suiaboi, where they reportedly pose as National Security personnel to target miners.
According to a report by adomonline.com on April 7, 2026, Western North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Tsidi, said the suspects were dressed in uniforms resembling those of National Security operatives and demanded documentation from miners.
He added that the group allegedly seized items from individuals who were not actively engaged in mining at the time.

“Their activities raised suspicion among residents, some of whom confronted the suspects, while others pursued them towards Dadieso, leading to a tip-off to the police,” the report said.
Acting swiftly on the information, officers intercepted and arrested them.
The suspects have been identified as Amponsah Asare Wagan, 33; Nelson Agbodzah, 28; Awedagah Norbert, 27; Francis Brefo, 35; and their driver, Benjamin Boakye, 48.
They were reportedly using a Toyota Hilux with registration number GX 1095-19.
They have since been handed over to the Dadieso Police Station for further investigations.
DCOP Tsidi warned that while security agencies remain committed to clamping down on illegal mining, they will not tolerate individuals who impersonate security personnel to exploit or harass citizens.
