Black Stars assistant coaches, John Paintsil and Desmond Offei
The future of the Black Stars technical team remains uncertain following the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo after a string of poor performances.
The former Borussia Dortmund scout was sacked after two losses in international friendlies against Austria and Germany, which triggered public anger toward the team.
Technical staff members include John Paintsil, Fatau Dauda, and Desmond Offei. Following a recent expansion, the team also welcomed coaches Alain Ravera, Kim Lars Bjorgekren, Gregory De Grauwe, Daniel Martinez Alfonso, and physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) expanded the backroom staff to support Otto Addo and improve performance, but that plan has collapsed with his dismissal.
As a result, the future of the technical team remains unknown: whether the GFA will retain them to support the incoming coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup or dissolve the unit to allow new individuals to take over.
If the GFA appoints one of the current technical team members as interim coach, it is highly likely the backroom staff will be retained.
However, if an external coach is appointed, the GFA may part ways with them, or the new coach may decide their fate, as most managers prefer working with their own backroom staff.
Since Addo’s dismissal, the GFA has not commented on the future of the technical team, as their focus remains on appointing a new head coach with the World Cup only months away.
