Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has expressed concern over what he believes is the rising cost of utilities in Ghana.

According to him, many households in the country are struggling to pay for basic services like electricity and water.

Painting a vivid picture of the situation for Ghanaians, Aboagye, speaking on Joy News on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, said that most meters in many households are constantly beeping, indicating a lack of prepaid credit.

“Today, the reality is hitting us. Go to the market, go to Tiptoe Lane here, and go and ask them, they'll tell you, they cannot afford electricity, they cannot afford water.

“These days, when you are walking on the street, when you are taking your morning walk, pay close attention. Remove your headphones, you will hear the meter of every household beeping,” he said.

Aboagye also claimed that, within a year, the ruling government has increased the cost of some basic amenities, particularly electricity, which he says has placed a heavy toll on citizens.

“Why? Because people can't just afford it. That in 12 months, you have a government that increases electricity by 24%,” he added.

He also pointed out the rising cost of water, claiming it had increased by 15 percent.

“Then, you have water increased by 15%. And those are the things that we've been speaking about and talking about all day long,” he indicated.

Miracles Aboagye further explained that despite improvements in key economic indicators, ordinary Ghanaians are not feeling the benefits.

“Dollar has actually come down, fuel has come down, and inflation has come down, but there's a disconnect. And we're only drawing the government's attention to that disconnect because they may not have realised that,” he stated.

He concluded by questioning why the positive changes in the economy have not reflected in the everyday lives of citizens.

“Why is it that for the first time in this country, we see all these macroeconomic indicators improving drastically, massively, and yet, it's not reflected in our lives,” he questioned.
