Former Black Stars defender Edwin Gyimah has shared a distressing period in his life, alleging that betrayal and spiritual attacks from within his family played a role in the collapse of his football career.

The 35-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Sekhukhune United in 2024, shared his emotional story during an interview on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi.

Throughout the interview, Edwin Gyimah appeared emotional and at times struggled to hold back tears as he detailed the challenges he has been facing.

According to him, his sudden decline both professionally and personally cannot be separated from what he describes as spiritual attacks allegedly orchestrated by immediate family members.

He claimed that the very people he trusted most have turned against him, ultimately stripping him of his properties and leaving him in a state of hardship.

Gyimah explained that despite once enjoying financial stability during his active playing days, his current situation is dire.

He disclosed that he is now living under difficult conditions in Ghana with his wife and children and, shockingly, has no place to call home after his sisters allegedly took over an eight-bedroom house he built.

“I have been sidelined. I don’t get contracts anymore. Last year I had about 21 offers, but I couldn’t sign any. I asked my family for help, but they didn’t assist me. They live in an eight-bedroom house I built, yet I don’t even have a place to stay,” he said.

He went on to recount a property dispute involving one of his sisters, claiming that she initially proposed to give him GH¢50,000 in exchange for transferring ownership of the house to her.

However, the situation appears to have escalated into a conflict, with his sister now accusing him of attempting to sell the same property to an external party.

“My sister said she would give me GH¢50,000 if I transferred ownership of my house to her. Now she is accusing me of trying to sell the house and make her homeless. At the moment, I am the one without a home,” he noted.

The former defender also traced the roots of his struggles back to his time with the Ghana national football team, where he said he began experiencing unusual physical conditions that he believes were spiritually orchestrated.

He described episodes where he temporarily lost sensation in his eyes, along with severe back pain and other unexplained health issues.

“During my Black Stars days, I was dealing with spiritual attacks. Sometimes I couldn’t feel my eyes, I had severe back pain and other issues. I was told my mother had warned people not to help me and that what I was going through was spiritual,” he added.
