  $65,000 bail is peanuts. My bail for a misdemeanor charge was $50,000 back in 2014. I allegedly hacked into the property records and revealed judges' hidden real estate holdings. Allegedly. I only had to pay $5,000 -- less than one month's house payment -- to the bail bondsman.
  
  It works like this:
  Pay the $65,000. It is refunded when you appear. If you don't appear, the judge issues a warrant for your arrest.
  
  Pay the bondsman $6,500. He pays the $65,000. When you appear, he keeps the $65,000 plus your $6,500. If you don't appear, the judge issues the warrant, but he also sends out a bounty hunter to find you. Then he sues you for his recovery cost.
