The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, has announced the appointment of Professor Bernard Kumi-Boateng as its new Vice Chancellor, effective August 1, 2026.
The appointment follows what the University describes as a rigorous and transparent selection process led by a Search Committee constituted by the University Council.
The committee conducted both national and international searches, assessed candidates against clearly defined criteria, and submitted its recommendations after a thorough evaluation.
After reviewing the report, the University Council approved Professor Kumi-Boateng’s appointment, citing his strong academic credentials, leadership experience, and capacity to drive the institution’s strategic vision.
Chairperson of the University Council, Professor (Mrs) Goski Alabi, expressed confidence in the new Vice Chancellor, stating that he possesses the vision, integrity, and leadership required to guide the University into its next phase of growth.
She noted that his track record in academic leadership, research, and institutional development stood out during the selection process.
The Council also commended members of the Search Committee for ensuring a credible and merit-based process.
Professor Kumi-Boateng takes over from the outgoing Vice Chancellor, whose tenure, according to the University, significantly enhanced the institution’s development and reputation.
The University has called on stakeholders, including staff, students, alumni, and partners, to support the incoming Vice Chancellor as he assumes office and works to advance UMaT’s mission.
