The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has cautioned district managers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to improve their performance, warning that continued poor service could lead to major changes within the company.

During an interview with journalists on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the minister raised concerns about delays in responding to power outages in some parts of the country, describing the situation as worrying.

He noted that some district offices were not meeting expectations, especially in responding quickly to customers facing power cuts.

He disclosed that he has directed the Managing Director of ECG to carry out an internal review in the affected districts to identify lapses and fix them as soon as possible.

According to Jinapor, the review will focus on improving service delivery and ensuring customers receive timely support whenever there is a disruption in electricity supply.

His comments follow growing complaints from consumers in some areas who say it takes too long for faults to be fixed after reporting outages.

“There are some negative developments...I also get reports of where, in some particular districts, there is liturgy. The level of responsiveness is not encouraging,” he said.

He stressed that although ECG is doing well overall, certain districts continue to fall short, and he is unhappy with the situation, hence the directive for immediate action.

“Generally, I know you are doing a good job, but there are some isolated cases where I must be frank. As a minister, I am not happy, and I have directed your MD to do some exercise there,” the energy minister said.

“If it means that we should do a shake-up like any other organisation, we would have to do a shake-up,” he warned, adding, “but don’t let us get there. You have a duty, you have your work cut out for you, so please let’s do that,” he added.
