Police arrest University of Ghana security guard seen in viral assault video

Ghana Police Service has arrested a security guard of the University of Ghana who was captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a civilian.

In a statement issued on April 14, 2026, the police said the suspect, identified as Ebenezer Annor Darko, was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET).

“He is currently assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the incident,” the statement said.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public concern and condemnation, with many calling for swift action from authorities.

Police indicated that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The Service also cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands by administering instant justice to persons suspected of criminal activity.
