Police at the Kasoa Central District have arrested a 42-year-old man for attempting to smuggle prohibited items to a remand prisoner at the Kasoa CBD Police Station.
The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at about 8:00 pm during routine security checks at the station.
Man arrested for allegedly stealing police armoured vehicle
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Mohammed Hamidu, a herbalist, arrived at the station with a loaf of bread and six carbonated drinks intended for a remand prisoner, Cephas Bubune Sisiawovor, who was in custody for robbery.
However, a search conducted by officers uncovered two newly acquired hacksaw blades concealed inside the loaf of bread, raising suspicions of a possible escape attempt.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted that he was acting on instructions from the remand prisoner.
He told investigators that he had been directed to collect the items from an individual identified only as Emmanuel, who is said to operate in front of a shop in Kasoa.
Mohammed Hamidu has since been taken into custody to assist with investigations, while police have launched a manhunt for the said Emmanuel.

Police added that the retrieved items, including the bread with the concealed blades and the drinks, have been retained as exhibits.
