The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has published a list of 62 institutions it says are not recognised.

It has therefore warned the public to be cautious when dealing with them.

Government given 14-day ultimatum to remove GTEC top officials

In a public notice dated April 17, 2026, the Commission said the listed schools are not approved due to quality assurance concerns.

“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the general public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognised by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns,” the statement said.

GTEC advised prospective students and the general public to verify the status of institutions before enrolling or accepting certificates.

“Accordingly, the general public is advised to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by these institutions,” it added.

Some of the institutions named include Universidad Azteca Mexico, Indian School of Management and Studies in India, Breyer State Theology University in the USA, Debest College of Science, Arts and Business in Ghana, and Atlantic International University in the USA.

Others are Faith University Seminary in Ghana, Monarch Business School in Switzerland, City University in Cambodia, Doxa Open University in Ghana, Quest International University in Ghana, and London Academy of Technology and Management in the UK.

The list also includes Washington University of Barbados, Swiss Management Centre University, Isles International University in Ireland, Kingsnow University in the USA, and Texila American University in Guyana.

GTEC said the notice forms part of efforts to protect students and maintain standards in tertiary education.

GTEC's reckless overreach must end now - Who will call them to order?

The Commission did not indicate any sanctions but stressed that certificates from the listed institutions may not be recognised for official purposes.
