The government has announced plans to roll out a digital system that will allow Ghanaians to report power outages instantly, with a WhatsApp-based platform designed to ensure swift responses from technical teams.
Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, explained that the initiative seeks to eliminate delays associated with traditional call centers and strengthen communication between power providers and consumers.
Speaking during the President’s Resetting Tour of the Northern Region, Dr Jinapor stated that; “We are committed to improving the electricity subsector, the renewable sector, and the petroleum sector. We’ll also improve on our communication.”

He further revealed that the new system will enable consumers to bypass call lines entirely.
“We are going to launch a system where, when you have the least outage, you don’t even need to call. Just send a WhatsApp message with your location, and we shall dispatch men and women there to address your problem in real time,” the energy minister said.
Authorities expect the platform to significantly reduce downtime and enhance customer experience in electricity distribution.
The move also reflects a broader shift toward real-time service delivery and deeper digital engagement in the power sector, as government leverages mobile technology to bridge longstanding gaps in fault reporting and response times.
