The motor rider pictured buying fuel
Footage from a CCTV camera has captured a fire incident involving a motor rider who was reportedly on a phone call while buying fuel.
The footage, shared on X by CDR Africa on Monday, April 20, 2026, shows the rider actively using his phone during the refuelling process. He is seen placing the device in his pocket without ending the call.
Shortly after, a fire ignited, prompting panic as both the fuel attendants and the rider ran for safety.

The rider reportedly breached standard safety regulations by remaining on a phone call during refuelling, a practice widely discouraged due to the risk of ignition from electrical devices and fuel vapour exposure.
Although no casualties were immediately reported, the incident has renewed concerns about strict adherence to safety protocols at fuel stations, particularly among commercial riders who frequently patronise such facilities.
Authorities and safety experts continue to caution the public to avoid using mobile phones, smoking, or engaging in any activity that could generate sparks while refuelling, stressing that such negligence can easily lead to serious accidents or fatalities.
