The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled his linguist, Kyeame Kofi Nti, following multiple allegations of misconduct brought before the Asanteman Council.
According to a report by opemsuo.com, Kyeame Kofi Nti was destooled at the Asanteman Council meeting on Monday, April 20, 2026, after several individuals accused him of offences including perpetrating violence, denigrating the Great Oath, extortion, and exceeding his authority.
“Among the key claims was that Kyeame Kofi Nti is not of royal lineage. His accuser told the Council that the linguist had failed to counter an oath invoked against him in March 2026, under the pretext that he needed to inform Otumfuo first,” the report noted.

Addressing the matter, Otumfuo said, “Because of Bekwaihene, I was willing to forgive all other offences. However, I give you the opportunity to defend yourself on royalty.”
Kyeame Kofi Nti was unable to counter the oath, which led the Asantehene to order his immediate destoolment.
As custom demands, his traditional sandals were removed at the meeting, and instructions were issued for the requisite rites to be performed to formally strip him of all authority and privileges attached to the office.
