A GH¢139,710 payroll discrepancy uncovered at the Sefwi Akontombra District Assembly has been linked to a serving Accounts Officer at Parliament, prompting the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to begin steps towards involving the Clerk of Parliament.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the issue came up during a PAC hearing on April 20, 2026, where officials from the Assembly appeared before the Committee to respond to audit findings contained in the Auditor-General’s report.

The report pointed to irregular salary payments described as unearned income.

According to the Assembly, the payments were made to three staff members who were on secondment between 2022 and 2024 but continued to receive salaries they were not entitled to during that period.

The Auditor-General has since recommended that the full amount be recovered from those involved.

Officials told the Committee that efforts to retrieve the funds have so far been unsuccessful, despite repeated attempts to reach the affected individuals as well as the institutions where they were posted on secondment.

Attention was particularly drawn to one of the officers involved, who is currently employed as an Accounts Officer at Parliament.

The Assembly disclosed that it had written to the officer and also informed the Clerk of Parliament but had not received any response.

The situation raised concerns among Committee members, given that one of the individuals linked to the irregular payments is now serving within Parliament.

Following the discussions, the Ranking Member of the Committee, Samuel Atta-Mills, instructed that the Clerk of Parliament be officially notified to ensure the matter is followed up and the necessary steps are taken to recover the funds.
