Seasoned lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata has disclosed that his wife was informed by a trusted source of an alleged plot to poison him during his time in prison, explaining how it influenced his daily routine behind bars.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews aired on April 21, 2026, Tsikata described his experience in prison as sobering, noting that it also made him more aware of the privileges he had enjoyed in life.

“Life in prison was sobering in a sense, too, that it enabled me to see what a privileged life I had by God’s grace,” he said, adding that one of the key sources of support during that period was his wife, who brought him food every day.

“The fact that my wife could be bringing food to me every day in prison,” he noted.

He explained that this daily act from his wife was not only out of care but was influenced by a serious warning his wife had received from a trusted source, advising her not to allow him to eat food provided in prison.

“And again, an aspect of this, which I can say, even without having asked my wife’s permission… she had been told from a very dependable quarter that she should not allow me to eat in the prison, because there could be some plans around my eating the food regularly from prison,” he disclosed.

When asked by the interviewer whether that warning suggested an attempt to poison him, Tsikata agreed.

“That is correct,” he said.

He stressed that the information was not casual talk but came from someone credible, though he chose not to reveal the person’s identity.

“And this was not just told as a little story or petty gossip. She was told by somebody who knew what he was talking about, and I’m very grateful to that person. I would not mention his name for reasons which, in this country, we should understand. I will not… I will never want to mention it,” he stated.

The conversation deepened when the interviewer suggested that the situation pointed to more than just imprisonment, raising the possibility of a plan to end his life while in custody.

“So they not only persecute you now, but they put you in jail, and they wanted to kill you whilst there?” the interviewer asked.

“That’s what we were authoritatively told,” Tsikata responded.

The seasoned lawyer said his wife’s consistency played a crucial role in keeping him safe, explaining that despite her own professional duties, she ensured she brought him food every single day.

“And so my wife, daily, was determined, whatever her responsibility, she had her own company to run every day, but she brought me food,” he added.
