Kpone premix fuel committee calls for probe into alleged mismanagement

The Upper Landing Beach Committee at Kpone has called for an independent investigation into alleged financial mismanagement by former executives of the Kpone premix fuel committee.

Michael Mensah Thompson, Secretary of the Committee, made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, urging the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive to initiate a probe into the handling of premix fuel revenues during the tenure of the previous leadership.

Thompson alleged that the former executives failed to render proper accounts on proceeds generated from the sale of premix fuel to fisherfolk along the various landing beaches in the area.

“Fisherfolk deserve to know how proceeds from premix fuel sales were utilised, but unfortunately, that level of transparency has been missing,” he said.

He further claimed that while the previous leadership operated a separate bank account, the current administration had also opened another account, describing the situation as irregular and one that required urgent scrutiny.

Thompson said the circumstances surrounding the committee’s financial management warranted a thorough and independent investigation to establish the facts.

He emphasised the need for reforms in the premix fuel management system at the landing beaches to ensure transparency, accountability, and the efficient use of resources.

According to him, restoring confidence among fisherfolk and other stakeholders depended largely on holding officeholders accountable for their stewardship.

The allegations have generated concern within the local fishing community, with calls on the appropriate authorities to intervene promptly to protect the integrity of premix fuel operations.
