Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to confer the prestigious Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Medal on President John Dramani Mahama and former Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor at the “World-Meets-in-Ghana” Executive Dinner Ball in Kumasi on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The honour, one of the highest state-recognised awards associated with the Asantehene, is reserved for leaders considered to have made outstanding contributions to peace, national cohesion and economic development. It recognises leadership efforts that have strengthened Ghana’s stability and progress over time.
According to a report by graphic.com.gh on April 21, 2026, the ceremony will symbolically bring together the three leaders under one royal canopy in a rare moment of national recognition and unity.
President John Dramani Mahama is being honoured for his role in continuing the Dagbon peace process and for supporting the Otumfuo-led committee tasked with resolving the long-standing chieftaincy conflict.
His administration is also credited with overseeing the completion of the Bawku mediation process, which culminated in the presentation of a final report by the Asantehene.
Otumfuo to honour Mahama, two former presidents at Executive Dinner Ball
His government further adopted a reconciliation roadmap and directed the establishment of a GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund.
He is also noted for efforts to stabilise the cedi and restore macroeconomic stability.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is being recognised for sustaining peace in Dagbon and supporting the final resolution of the chieftaincy dispute through the Otumfuo-led mediation process.
He is also cited for key governance reforms, including the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, which expanded access to secondary education nationwide.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is also being honoured for initiating the Dagbon peace process during his tenure, laying the foundation for the eventual resolution of the protracted conflict.
He is further recognised for introducing major social interventions, including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which significantly improved access to healthcare in Ghana.
The “World-Meets-in-Ghana” Executive Dinner Ball forms part of activities marking Otumfuo’s 27th coronation anniversary and will be held under the theme: “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision.”
