The periodic xenophobic attacks by South Africans have started, with several Ghanaians resident in South Africa coming under attack.
While Ghana’s Foreign Minister has taken steps to protect Ghanaians, the attacks in South Africa seem to be getting out of hand.
Videos are emerging of South Africans confronting Ghanaians and other foreigners on the streets, demanding that they leave their country.
One of the videos showed a group of South Africans sacking all foreigner patients at a government hospital.
The group demanded that the doctors and nurses at the hospital discharge all foreigners who were receiving treatment.
One of the men is heard instructing the doctors at the hospital “to stabilise and discharge” the patients so they would go and seek medical attention at private health facilities.
According to him, no foreigner is allowed to seek medical attention in public hospitals.
Some of the South Africans could be seen going round the hospital, inspecting the ID cards of persons at the hospital.
