Nanja Divine is President of TTAG
The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana has called on the government to immediately suspend the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise, describing the process as unfair.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, President of the Association, Nanja Divine, questioned the future of unemployed teacher trainees, expressing concern over delays in postings and limited job opportunities.
"Those that are currently in the College of Education, they are over 65,000. So, if the 45,000 in the system don't know when they are to be posted, then what is the essence of their being in the College of Education?

"If the government thinks that it cannot recruit the 45,000 trained teachers that are in the system, then it is good that the Colleges of Education consider that and close down the schools. When they are able to absorb those that are in the system, then they can think, or we can start enrolment in the Colleges of Education again, because they are making the Colleges of Education not to be attractive again," he remarked.
Nanja Divine said Colleges of Education are institutions that focus on training individuals to teach in the classroom, and delays in recruitment risk undermining their purpose.
"I've also said it earlier that Colleges of Education are unique institutions, and nobody can take that away from us, because all that we do over there is to go to the classroom to teach.
"If, at the end of the day, the four years in the College of Education are finished, and you don't know when you are to be posted, what is your fate?" he remarked.
The association further warned that it would mobilise its members nationwide if the government fails to suspend the recruitment exercise after its ultimatum expires.
TTAG is also urging the government to engage stakeholders and introduce a fairer recruitment system that better reflects the growing number of trained teachers entering the job market each year.
