If there is a glut of teachers, stop training more. Training of professionals must be need based. Worst of all we pay them allowances only to keep them sitting at home after training.

It is very hard that things have ground to this situation. When I was at the UCC in THE LATE LONG LONG AGO, students were admitted according to the needs of the country at the time. Before Students came out, their Postings to where they were going to work, especially to teach were already on the various Student’s Notice Boards, the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times which were the only Daily Newspaper in Ghana.
Secondly, many English Speaking Countries in the rest of Africa and the World are in desperate need for qualified Teachers like those from Ghana where they can be paid in US Dollars. Why can’t the various Governments we have had not been able to work with such countries and have Trained Teachers from Ghana posted to such areas? It is just inappropriate to be professionally trained as a Teacher to be unemployed and even not paid for years after being employed. That is seriously embarrassing, unacceptable and silly if not shameful and sickening. Mahama, work with other countries and have the unemployed get employment. Mahama, this is not Astronomical Science that what you studied in the then Soviet Union can’t solve. Gird on your Armor and get to war.

In sixties and seventies teachers were served with their registered numbers and postings before they left college. I still remember my trs. Registered numbers as 1164/75.

I can understand how these unemployed teachers feel but thinking about closing the college schools is not an option as it also serves as an employment for a lot of people. However my thoughts are we should begin to train more technical/ vocational teachers who after completing can also be self employed whilst they wait for teaching positions. A lot of these technical/ vocational teachers can eventually feed into the industrialization of the economy.

Even if they are to be given loans, who is going to Guarantee for them? Hmmmm. It is easier said than done. The Unemployment Situation is a real difficult riddle that is difficult to solve as we continue to churn more University Graduates into the system annually to increase the number of the unemployed in our society. All trained teachers should apply for jobs at the end of their studies just as any one who has trained to weld, or dance.

Should the Government train Teachers and Nurses that are not needed because they can’t be paid regularly and appropriately when hired? Go to the Afram Plains, and find out how many Nurses and Teachers are still needed there.

Redundancy resulting in unemployment is the eminent result of the education reform.
The three main areas to reform in education was totally neglected.
The Technical, The Vocational and the agricultural education were neglected at the expense of purely academic courses. Years of education shortened, worst of it is the distant education, which is on the job training leaves no room for vacancies to employ. Cheap Politics is the root cause of unemployment

It appears too many teachers have been trained and the GES cannot find schools for them.Inspite of the number of Training Colleges in the country, i heard the government was planning to establish a new training college somewhere in the Western region- a misplced priority..Whoever made that promise sh shelve it.Ghana does not need any new training college..
