The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has issued a stern warning to Dr Mary Awusi over what he describes as an unwarranted attack on Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.

The MP’s reaction follows claims that Dr Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, allegedly threatened Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.

The alleged threat is said to have come after Apostle Nyamekye during her one-on-one interview on Accra-based radio station, Accra FM.

Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye criticised the government over what he described as the abysmal handling of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The claims have sparked public debate, although no official response has yet been issued by Dr Awusi regarding the allegations.

In a strongly worded statement, Dr Afriye emphasised that any threat directed at Apostle Nyamekye should not be viewed as limited to the Church of Pentecost but as an affront to the entire Effiduase-Asokore community.

“A threat to Apostle Nyamekye does not end in the Church of Pentecost. He hails from Asokore and is a proud constituent of Effiduase-Asokore,” the statement read.

He cautioned Dr Awusi to desist from what he termed “senseless bluff,” warning that the people of Effiduase-Asokore will not tolerate any form of intimidation or baseless attacks against one of their own.

The MP further issued a 48-hour ultimatum for an apology, failing which he suggested there would be a response reflecting the sentiments of the constituents.

“You have 48 hours to apologise. Otherwise, I will deliver to you the mood of the great people of Effiduase-Asokore for attacking one of her own without basis.

"We are not timid souls in Asokore. We will respond appropriately if you fail to apologise,” he warned.

Dr Nana Ayew Afriye issued those warnings on his Facebook wall.

The development has triggered mixed reactions, with some calling for calm and restraint, while others have expressed support for the MP’s stance.

As of the time of filing this report, Dr Mary Awusi and the Ghana Free Zones Authority had not publicly responded to the allegations.
