Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is the traditional ruler of the Asante people
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is set to make history with the unveiling of what is being described as the world’s first customised Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin Box; an innovative piece that blends tradition, technology, and storytelling.
The event which takes place on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, will be graced by President John Dramani Mahama, past presidents and dignitaries from across sectors.
The box contains a 24-karat, one-ounce gold coin bearing the image of the Asantehene.
The coin has also received approval from the Bank of Ghana and what sets the piece apart is its integration of digital features.
The commemorative box is fitted with two rechargeable touchscreens: a larger screen that plays a documentary detailing Otumfuo’s peacebuilding efforts, and a smaller screen that displays an animation of the gold coin.
The creators say no monarch or traditional leader has previously been honoured with such a technologically enhanced commemorative item.
Other items to be unveiled
Alongside the gold coin box, a range of commemorative items will also be introduced. These include Otumfuo-branded gold bars or tablets in multiple weights; 1g, 2.5g, 10g, 20g, 1 oz, 50g, 100g, and 5 oz; targeting collectors and investors alike.
Additional items feature commemorative artworks embossed with the gold coin design, as well as a 24-karat wristwatch, further expanding the collection tied to the Asantehene’s legacy.
Significance of the collection
The commemorative pieces are designed to symbolize Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s enduring role as a mediator and stabilising figure.
The gold coin box, enhanced with a documentary, seeks to preserve and project his peace initiatives, while the gold bars are said to represent prosperity born out of unity and stability.
The 24-karat wristwatch, meanwhile, reflects the lasting relevance of his leadership and counsel.
Together, the collection transforms his contributions to peace and national cohesion into tangible, lasting symbols intended for both local and global audiences.
The initiative is expected to resonate not only with Ghanaians but also with the African diaspora and the international community.
