I remember forming a branch of my Christian Church at Tamale many decades ago. I started with only a few of my students. Tamale is predominantly Muslim community and they don’t fight with Christians because both religious groups never disrespected each other. The Christians there knew how to respect the Moslems and the latter tolerated the former. It may surprise many to hear that Moslems and Christians invited each group to attend their religious ceremonies. Yes, the Chief Imam of Tamale became my good friend. I had studied Islamic Religion for three years at UCC and had come to understand Islam better.
Besides, I grew next to a Zongo community and many of my friends and acquaintances were Moslems. My father who was a Christian didn’t like the idea of Moslem families not allowing their children to attend Christian schools helped establish Islamic Elementary School there and helped to teach the students there. Yes, and he was very much respected by the Moslem community there. When I arrived at Uncle Sam’s country, my best friend that I could trust with my wife and daughter was a Moslem until he died. Honestly, he was truly religious and read the Bible more than I did and honestly respected true Christians. It abhors me when I see and hear of Moslems attacking and killing each other as it happens in the Arab World and Nigeria. Both religions should be taught to understand that they are not at loggerheads. The Koran is just a rendition of the Bible. The name of Jesus that Moslems call Issah in Arabic is mentioned in the Koran than any Religious Personality. True Moslems respect Jesus. The only thing that they don’t agree with is to say that JESUS IS THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD. Many people do not know that there are more Moslems in Israel than Christians. Many Moslems that included Yasser Arafat always attend Christmas in Bethlehem.
Religious Intolerance can be very dangerous and detrimental to the development of any society. People should just go and read the THIRTY YEARS WAR BETWEEN MOSLEMS AND CHRISTIANS. Religion is good but can be dangerously dangerous. Let us look at what is happening in the Middle East. Is it not hurtful and dangerous and disgusting and even disgraceful?

Managing a Church is one of the most difficult assignment that it's even difficult than managing a Corporate body.Check the history of all the Orthodox Churches (Methodist, Presby,Catholic & Anglican) all went thru these problems centuries ago.They have managed to reduce their problems and improved management, that's why some of us have become their members. It's so difficult worshipping God in an environment where there is so much chaos. Experts in Mgt would tell you it's difficult to manage an institution or a body where there's an abundant flow of Fiscal Cash, there's always a Greedy or a Corrupt chap trying to take advantage.

Any Pastor taking over this Church will have a tough job trying to pastor a divided congregation. In every church there are always individuals or groups of individuals who feel that they are best placed to direct the affairs of the church. Some of these people are well gifted but the main problem is always PRIDE, EGOTISM AND A SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT that some church members have often because they have been some of the oldest members or because they have made significant contributions to the Church including financially. If you look closely at the history of Churches fighting over successions, you will find that the seeds of this schism were sown many years previously but now breaking into the open because of people’s oversized egos. Clearly a lot of folks in that Church do not know the Lord or are not walking in obedience to the commands of the Lord. They are acting like they own the Church rather than Christ and in that sense are living in spiritual rebellion.
They way out is for those members who truly love the Lord to meet to have a sustained period (2-3 weeks) of fasting and prayer during which there is confession of sin (members asking each other for forgiveness) and forgiving grievances the hold against others. It may be prudent to get one or more respected independent men of God to assist them in this exercise. FOR THIS TO WORK EACH FACTION NEEDS TO GIVE UP THEIR ENTRENCHED POSITION, COME IN WITH A HEART THAT IS TRULY OPEN TO HEAR WHAT GOD HAS TO SAY. The Church belongs to Christ and not to some faction or group of individuals. Sometimes the difficulty is that some members within the congregation are mere Church attenders and not true believers whose hearts are yielded to the Lord. Others are mere baby Christians. For many Church members, Christianity is a label of respectability rather than a belief system that affects every aspect of their lives very deeply (at home or at work).
IT IS POSSIBLE TO TALK LIKE A CHRISTIAN, WALK LIKE A CHRISTIAN AND STILL NOT KNOW THE GOD OF HEAVEN BECAUSE WE ARE LIVING ACCORDING TO OUR OWN DICTATES RATHER THAN LIVING BY THE LORD’S COMMANDS.
