The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has dismissed claims that recent alleged rape incidents involving two of its students occurred on campus.

In a statement issued by the institution on April 24, 2026, the university said reports circulating on social media created a wrong impression about the incidents and needed to be corrected.

56-year-old man remanded for allegedly raping two KNUST female students

“The alleged incidents did not occur on the KNUST campus. They took place off campus in the nearby community of Ayeduase and therefore fall outside the jurisdiction of the University’s internal security operations,” the statement said.

The university also clarified that the suspect in the case is not part of its security system.

“The suspect is not a member of KNUST’s Security Services. The individual is a private security guard engaged by the Ayeduase Roman Catholic Primary School and has no affiliation whatsoever with the University’s official security system,” it added.

The KNUST management further stated that the cases have been reported to the police and are being handled by the appropriate state authorities.

“The suspect remains in police custody, and the matter is currently before the court,” the statement noted.

KNUST said it is supporting the victims through its Counselling Centre and working with relevant institutions to ensure justice.

“The victims have received initial counselling support, and the University has initiated contact to offer further psychological and medical support,” it said.

The university also urged the media to verify information before publication to avoid spreading false reports.

Meanwhile, an earlier report by GhanaWeb indicated that the Asokore Mampong District Court had remanded a 56-year-old security guard, Lloyd Kwaku Boateng, into police custody over allegations of rape, extortion, and intimidation.

According to the report, the suspect, who worked at Ayeduase Roman Catholic Junior High School, allegedly targeted couples who visited the school compound at night.

Prosecutors say he intimidated the couples, separated the men from their partners, and assaulted the women.

On February 13, 2026, he allegedly attacked a 22-year-old student and her boyfriend, seized their belongings, and demanded GH₵300 before assaulting the woman.

A second incident was reported on April 4, 2026, involving a 23-year-old student, who was allegedly held overnight, threatened with a knife, raped, and forced to transfer GH₵150 via Mobile Money.

The prosecution added that the suspect also took nude photographs of the victim and threatened to release them.

He was arrested on April 13, 2026, after community members intervened during another attempted attack.

Medical reports confirmed physical trauma in both cases, although the accused has denied the allegations in his caution statement.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, prayed the court to remand the suspect as investigations continue.

The case, presided over by Hilda Esther Wryter, has been adjourned to May 8, 2026.
