10 Dead, 11 Arrested and More: Ghana Army shares details of shootout in Binduri

The Ghana Armed Forces has given details of a gun battle between some of its officers and some "unknown elements" on Monday, April 27, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Army indicated at least 10 people died in the clash.

It stated that out of the 10 people who died, three were civilians who were part of a convoy it was protecting.

"A Ghana Armed Forces escort convoy protecting 140 civilians was attacked this morning, Monday, April 27, 2026, at Binduri by unknown elements. The convoy from Bawku towards Bolga was shot at several times, resulting in the death of 3 of the civilians being escorted and injuring one,” part of the statement read.

The army also stated that the remaining 7 who died were some of the assailants it shot.

"In the process, the military successfully repulsed the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of 7 assailants,” it said.

It added that it also arrested 11 of the unknown elements and seized guns and ammunition after it chased one of them to a mosque.

“In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque a G3 automatic rifle, 2 filled magazines of 20 rounds each, and 176 rounds of additional ammunition. Ten other suspects were arrested and are assisting with investigations."
