Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurideen Muhammed Mumuni, called for swift military intervention to address escalating violence in the Binduri area of the Upper East Region about five months ago.

Speaking in an interview on ChannelOne TV, in November 2025, the lawmaker expressed deep concern over recurring attacks and loss of lives, describing the situation as alarming.

Mumuni, at the time, began by extending condolences to families affected by the violence.

“I want to send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and all those who have lost loved ones in these recent and previous attacks,” he said.

As a member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, he noted that the frequency of such incidents was troubling.

“It is very worrisome that day in, day out, issues of this nature are happening to human beings,” he stressed.

The MP urged the government, particularly the Ministry of Interior and the security agencies, to act decisively to prevent further killings.

“I call on His Excellency the President to, with immediate effect, work with the interior ministry and all security agencies to take action to ensure this does not continue,” he stated.

He revealed that the Defence and Interior Committee was preparing a detailed report to catalogue the incidents and inform further action.

Mumuni warned that many of the killings in the Binduri area were going unreported, compounding the crisis.

“From last month to this month, there have been a lot of killings. Some of these are not even reported. It is unfortunate,” he said.

He also drew attention to the shifting nature of the conflict, noting that while tensions in Bawku had relatively subsided, violence had intensified in Binduri.

“Now, it is no longer Bawku, it is Binduri, though the issue started in Bawku,” he explained.

Addressing communities in the conflict zone, Mumuni made a passionate appeal for restraint and reconciliation, particularly referencing tensions among the Kusasi people.

“They should fear the Almighty Allah and let peace prevail. Human life cannot be wasted like that,” he urged.

He also disclosed that the home of the area’s Member of Parliament had been torched by assailants, underscoring the severity of the security situation.

Mumuni indicated that Parliament’s Minority members on the Defence and Interior Committee were compiling findings and would soon engage the Interior and Defence Ministers for a comprehensive briefing.

The lawmaker reiterated the need for urgent and coordinated action to restore peace, warning that continued inaction could worsen the crisis in the Binduri area.
