The Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has reacted to the tragic passing of two of its staff members, a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant, who died in a road accident on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway at Third Ridge on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Expressing deep sorrow over the death in a statement issued by the Acting Director of the Directorate of Public Affairs, Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, the University said it received the news with shock and sadness, describing the incident as a painful loss to the academic community.

“Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow, the untimely passing of one of its distinguished faculty members, Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang and Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant.
“Dr Agyemang, together with his Teaching Assistant, Peter Amoadu-Asmah, lost their lives in a tragic motor accident at Third Ridge, on the Cape Coast-Accra highway,” it said.
The University confirmed that Dr Agyemang was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning and was well respected for his work in teaching, research and service to the institution.
“He was a highly respected member of the University’s academic community, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service. His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” it continued.
Amoadu-Asmah, who served as a National Service Person, was also a graduate of the same department.
The University noted that he had distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student of the Department in the previous year.
“Amoadu-Asmah, on the other hand, was a National Service Person who graduated from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, UCC, in the previous year. He distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student of the Department,” the statement indicated.
UCC went on to extend condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them of the University community’s support during this difficult time.
“Management and the entire University community extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” it added.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred when a heavily loaded tipper truck reportedly lost control after an oncoming vehicle veered into its lane while overtaking, leading to a crash that claimed two lives and left five others injured.
