They are saying, ”Makwerekwere,” that’s a derogatory slur against foreigners, go home! Should this be a problem? These people are soo inward-looking that they have little to no respect for their fellow Black Africans. Why then must the unwelcome foreigner cry, worry, grumble or force their way to stay where they are not welcomed, even at the peril of their lives, when they have a country to call home?

Maybe, Amakye Dede’s song, “Ye yi wo baabi aa ko baabi, efiri se nkuro do so ye ntena faako nngye animguase” or that of A. B. Crentsil’s “Papa Samo, ko wo krom,” should be a reminder to the Ghanaians in South Africa, that it’s now time to pack bag and baggage and get back home. These xenophobic attacks might even be blessings in disguise. A clarion call for our leaders to intently look at the way we develop our human capital — school curricula — and the creation of equal opportunities for all. Efie ne fie, come back home!
