@Ghanaman. How do mix issues of favouritism with issues of discipline? And do think the Vice President, whom you cite, would be tiktoking while in sitting in church. Without discipline, she could not have become Vice Chancellor of UCC and a respected Vice President of Ghana. If you ever run an organisation or even stand in front of a class of school children to teach, you would understand the need to keep, at least, a certain minimum level of discipline.

I have known pastors facing similar situations turn the whole thing into a humorous moment by making light of it yet still having the effect of stopping some inappropriate behaviour recurring during Church service. For example, one pastor noted that some members of the congregation had fallen asleep because the seats which had recently been padded had perhaps become too comfortable and induced sleep. His remark caused a ripple of laughter, but people still got the message alright. One of the women who dozed during the service had been doing night duty as a nurse and had only rested an hour or two before rushing to the service- not a good thing to do if you want to maintain your health. GET ADEQUATE REST AFTER NIGHT DUTY.
Another globally well-known man of God (average congregation size of 10,000 during service) used to tell his congregants to kindly switch of their cell phones for the duration of the service and also during the Pre-service period for about 15 minutes there would be various LOOPED messages on the large electronic screens giving various bits of information and announcements including a request for people to respectfully switch of their mobile phones and desist from eating snacks during the church service.
PICKING ON INDIVIDUALS PUBLICLY AND WORSE STILL PHYSICALLY OR VERBALLY ASSAULTING THEM IS COMPLETELY OUT OF ORDER AND IS A REFLECTION OF THE IGNORANCE AND ARROGANCE OF THE SO-CALLED PASTOR. This ignorant Pastor may not have realised that he committed an offense by physically assaulting a Church attendee. He shouldn’t be surprised if the Police come knocking on his door. The Bible commands us to obey the Laws of the Land and this includes NOT assaulting people in the manner this ignoramus Pastor did. He needs to apologise to the woman also.

Some of you, when you come across a particular term, you try to use it in every situation, whether applicable or not.

One may debate on Pastor's measure: whether it was too harsh or not. (We don't know what might have happened in past - whether there had been warnings, etc). But this was a clear case of indiscipline. And it must be dealt with, one way or the other.

It's rude to do that. Let's be serious please! However, being a Pastor and where this took place he was too harsh. He could have politely drawn her attention or warned her nicely. The manner in which he did it is equally rude. He even hit her and that's bad. As if the woman was a child. I think the church is like a school where we go to learn, listen to the word of God, get corrected, be refined in the manner of Christ. We aren't perfect. So to be dismissive of members this way comes off as arrogant. I've already stopped going to church since covid, but if I was asked to leave a Church this way, I don't think I'd ever return again.
