Edward Ofori Agyemang is the president of MoMAG
The President of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG), Edward Ofori Agyemang, has called on the government to urgently address the ongoing power challenges to safeguard mobile money operations nationwide.
Speaking during the group’s funfair, dubbed MoMAG Day Out 2026, held on Friday, May 1, 2026, Ofori Agyemang expressed concern over the impact of erratic power supply on the activities of mobile money agents.
According to him, the unreliable electricity situation continues to disrupt transactions and affect the efficiency of agents who depend heavily on powered devices to run their businesses.
“Sometimes the devices we use depend on electricity to charge. Even when you buy power banks, they are not always reliable. This current power fluctuation is worrying,” he said.
He noted that the situation not only affects agents but also has broader economic implications, including reduced revenue for the state.

“If business is running smoothly, everyone benefits. The government earns taxes, and citizens can take care of their families,” he added.
Ofori Agyemang further explained that in some areas, transactions come to a complete halt whenever there is a power outage, as network infrastructure is also affected.
He additionally urged the government to prioritise a lasting solution to the power crisis to ensure the smooth operation of mobile money services and support businesses that rely on stable electricity.
“In my area, when the light goes off, you cannot do transactions at all. It affects the network because some of the poles depend on electricity,” he stated.
