A young man has been murdered by his friend for allegedly refusing to honour a GH¢20 promise he made to him. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Asuboa in the Asante Akim South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, according to myjoyonline.com report.

According to the report, the victim, identified only as Eric, reportedly had a long-standing financial arrangement with the suspect, 27-year-old Kwadwo Richmond.

Eric had earlier sold a refrigerator to Richmond’s mother, who made a partial payment but still owed an outstanding balance. As part of the transaction, Eric promised to give Richmond GH¢20 when he returned to collect the remaining money.

When Eric arrived in Asuboa to retrieve the balance, Richmond confronted him and demanded the GH¢20 immediately. Eric explained that he had no cash on him and suggested Richmond take the amount from his mother’s debt.

However, Richmond’s mother refused to release the money, leaving the matter unresolved.

Witnesses say the disagreement escalated into insults, though bystanders managed to calm the situation temporarily. Richmond later returned armed with a machete.

Eric attempted to defend himself with a piece of wood but Richmond overpowered him. Eric sustained severe injuries and collapsed while trying to flee. He was rushed to Juaso Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss.

Community leaders, including Youth Committee Secretary Kwabena Ofori Atta, confirmed the sequence of events and expressed shock at the senseless killing. Richmond has since fled the community, and police investigations are ongoing.

Eric leaves behind a grieving wife and four young children, whose future now hangs in uncertainty following this tragic loss.
