A 19-year-old senior high school student, Nii Lamptey, is receiving treatment after he was allegedly hit by a stray bullet during a demolition exercise at Danchira.

The incident is said to have occurred when police fired warning shots to disperse residents who were reportedly agitated and allegedly moving to attack a police station.

Narrating the circumstances surrounding the shooting in an interview with Channel One on May 6, 2026, an eyewitness said the victim was not part of the disturbance at the time he was shot.

“We were there during the incident when our brother, who was inside the room, came outside to attend to something. He was on his way when he saw the police firing guns and bullets and one of the stray bullets hit him in the side of his waist.

"We quickly rushed him to the Domeabra hospital. He was attended to but they had to transfer him to a bigger facility for extra care,” the eyewitness said.

The student was first taken to the FK Effah Community Hospital, where he was treated and later referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) due to the severity of his condition.

Administrator of the hospital, Ibrahim Napson, confirmed that the patient was stabilised before being transferred.

“I can confirm we've received a patient with gunshot wounds, managed, stabilized, and transferred to UGMC this morning. [The extent of injury] will be difficult to tell because all we could see with the naked eye is a bullet entrance hole and then an exit hole. But as to the damage internally, we don't know and that is the reason for the referral,” he said.

He added that the patient was in a weak condition when he arrived but responded to treatment.

“[The patient was] very weak, I would say, when he first arrived. Very sleepy, drowsy, but we managed to stabilize him. He was given IV fluids, painkillers, and so forth, so he became very much alert, even talking to us before he was transferred,” he stated.
