Donald Trump is the President of the United States
US President Donald Trump has criticised the soaring prices of tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting he would not personally pay the current rates being charged for matches.
Speaking in an interview with the New York Post, Trump reacted with surprise after learning that some fans are being asked to pay around $1,000 to attend the United States’ opening match against Paraguay in Los Angeles next month.
“I did not know that number,” Trump said. “I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn’t pay it either, to be honest with you.”
The comments come amid growing backlash over ticket prices for the expanded World Cup tournament, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to reports, the average price for a ticket to the final at MetLife Stadium on July 19 is nearing $13,000, a huge increase compared to the 2022 final.
Trump also hinted that his administration could look into the issue, particularly over concerns that ordinary supporters may be priced out of attending matches.
“If people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can’t go, I would be disappointed,” he stated.
Meanwhile, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the pricing model, insisting that ticket costs are being determined by market demand in the United States entertainment industry.
