Commercial drivers and commuters have opened up about the persistent transport crisis affecting parts of Accra.
Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu on Around Town at the Madina Zongo Junction, drivers, commuters and station managers shared their daily struggles and concerns over the growing transportation challenges in the city.
Drivers and station managers noted that the congestion often leaves passengers stranded for hours while commercial vehicles remain stuck in traffic instead of returning to the station for more passengers.

“As for the long queues, it’s only in the morning and evening, that is because there’s too much traffic in town. Especially the Accra Mall area and Dworwulu. The cars get stuck there, so they are not able to return for the passengers on time,” a station manager explained
They further suggested that creating and improving alternative road networks that connect commuters to their destinations without relying solely on the main roads could help reduce the pressure on traffic in the city.
According to them, the ongoing transport difficulties are not necessarily due to a shortage of vehicles, but rather the worsening traffic situation on Accra’s roads.
