The management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has denied reports suggesting that the ongoing process to select a new Vice-Chancellor has been halted due to political interference.
In a press release dated May 8, 2026, the university described the publication circulating on some media platforms as false and misleading.

According to management, the Vice-Chancellor selection process is ongoing and is being handled by the University Council Search Committee in line with the university’s rules and procedures.
“The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken notice of a publication circulating on some media platforms alleging that the ongoing Vice-Chancellor selection process has been halted due to political interference,” the statement said.
Management stressed that there has been no attempt by any individual or group to interfere with the process.
“Management wishes to state unequivocally that the said publication is false, misleading, and does not reflect the truth regarding the ongoing process,” the release added.
The university further assured stakeholders that the exercise is progressing smoothly and professionally.
“The search for a new Vice-Chancellor, being undertaken by the University Council Search Committee, is proceeding smoothly, professionally, and in full compliance with the statutes and established procedures governing the University,” it stated.
KNUST also maintained that the integrity and credibility of the process remain intact.
“At no stage has there been any attempt by any individual or group to influence, compromise, manipulate, or interfere with its credibility in any manner whatsoever,” the statement noted.
The university urged students, alumni, stakeholders, the media, and the public to disregard the reports.

“We therefore urge members of the University community, stakeholders, alumni, the media, and the public to disregard the said publication and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” management said.
The statement added that an official announcement on the outcome of the process will be made after the committee completes its work.
