A mother is in deep pain after accusing the father of her 15-year-old daughter of sexually abusing the girl for several years, an ordeal she says left the child pregnant and infected with HIV.

The girl, who is currently a candidate writing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), had been living with her father, a Police Inspector stationed at Garu in the Upper East Region, when the alleged abuse reportedly took place.

In an emotional interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the sad mother recounted how the abuse started when her daughter was just about 10 years old. She claimed the girl once became pregnant and the father allegedly arranged an abortion at home.

The mother also alleged that the father coached the girl to lie if anyone asked questions.

“He told her that if anybody asked her anything, she should say it was one of her teachers,” she said, adding that the father later caused the arrest of a teacher who had tried to assist the child. She noted that the girl’s testimony later led to the teacher’s release.

The mother said the truth started coming out when the girl was taken to the hospital. A doctor gently encouraged her to open up.

“At first, she was crying and couldn’t talk, but the doctor assured her that he only wanted to help her and ensure the right person is held accountable,” she recounted.

She said the girl eventually disclosed that her father was responsible.

According to her, the doctor reported the matter to the police and the inspector was invited for questioning in Bawku. Although the girl was initially separated from her father, she was later returned to his care during the investigation.

The mother explained that she only regained custody of her daughter after the father fell ill and travelled to Kumasi for treatment. The child was later referred from Agona to Koforidua for further medical examination.

Medical tests, she said, confirmed the girl is HIV positive.

“She was tested, and it came out that she had HIV,” she said tearfully.

The mother added that her daughter suspects she contracted the virus from her father, who reportedly took medication wrapped in black polythene and sealed with tape, claiming it was for leg pain.

She submitted the medical report to the Agona Jamasi Police Station but says the case has seen very little progress.

“For about five months, I heard nothing,” she said. “When I went back, they only told me I should wait.”

Due to the girl’s emotional trauma, the mother moved her to Koforidua to continue schooling. However, the child continues to struggle.

“One of the teachers later called me after speaking with her,” she explained. “That was when she narrated everything again.”

The case was subsequently reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Koforidua and referred to the national headquarters. Yet the mother says she is still waiting for meaningful action and fears the matter may be quietly swept aside.
