Some Ghanaian Parents are not very responsible when it comes to taking care of their children. The Parents sometimes become more liberal than Uncle Sam himself and allow their children to do whatever they like when they turn 18 years. That is dangerously dangerous and irresponsible. I have two young men and ladies who are my own children living with me but I don’t give them that unchecked freedom. They are Medical Doctors, a Lawyer and a Military Officer. Grown up already and gainfully employed but I don’t allow them to do whatever they want, especially when they are not married.
Probably I may be seen as very strict but they have come to understand that none of them can leave home without telling me where the one is going. Wherever they go, they have to inform me of their arrival at their destinations. I am not being hard but I have to protect them and protect myself. I don’t follow them wherever they go but they know that they have to tell me how long they shall be at their destinations. And just as my parents used to do to me, I don’t sleep until all my children come back home safely. This is Uncle Sam’s country that the people you need to fear most are your friends and neighbors because they can easily harm your family members because they know that you know and trust them. My neighbors and friends know that I am very nice but do not play when it comes to my family members. I usually sleep with my Pistols and AK47 fully loaded. I have two big PitBulls that live with me and my family. I leave them in my Courtyard and the moment they start to bark wildly, suggesting an attempt of an intrusion into my Yard, I just pick up my AK47 and peep from my dark room to see who the intruder is if there is any.
All my Children have been trained at a Shooting Range on how and when to shoot. They each carry Pistols which is legal in Uncle Sam’s country. I will suggest to my Ghanaian brothers and sisters that we should provide for our Children but we should protect them and give them reasonable freedom.
My Children’s friends tell them that I am too protective and sometimes can be wild but my Children understand that I don’t want them to die foolishly.
