Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has accused Raymond Archer, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), of centralising too much power within the agency, describing it as a “one-man institution.”

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on May 9, 2026, Afenyo-Markin expressed concerns about governance, accountability, and internal checks and balances within EOCO, arguing that recent developments suggest excessive power is being concentrated in its leadership.

'Release them now' - Afenyo-Markin slams EOCO over re-arrest

“Raymond Archer has made EOCO a one-man institution,” Afenyo-Markin stated, adding that “strong institutions must not be reduced to the will of one individual.”

He stressed the need for transparency, oversight, and strict adherence to due process in the operations of anti-corruption bodies.

His comments come amid the ongoing legal dispute involving former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni.

The couple were re-arrested shortly after the Office of the Attorney General discontinued charges against them, citing fresh evidence, a development that has sparked debate over prosecutorial discretion and due process.

Their lawyers, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, claim they were denied access to their clients for more than 24 hours following the re-arrest.

However, EOCO maintains that all procedures were properly followed as investigations continue.
